About Black Raters
Black Rater became a concept created by writer\filmmaker Tony Dismuke in 2020 as a platform to support lesser-known films and actors. The idea came about as Tony and his wife, Koni, were in lockdown due to Covid. Koni, who had an MBA, would work from home while Tony went to the office. Hence, searching for culturally relatable content not limited to black films took too much time. Hence, Tony decided to filter through as much content as possible when it was time to pick a show to watch across all platforms. The unintended effect was the discovery of numerous shows and series that star actors and actresses from around the globe that great. The Black Raters was born. Tony shared the concept with a close group of friends. D’Angelo Waddington, who was a film producer in the states and Africa, and Marcos Mayes, a musician, writer, and producer. In the end, the result was a platform known as the Black Raters.

Its Black Rater’s vision is to bring together family and friends for the best kind of viewing experience. Provides a platform to connect filmmakers and the worldwide audience with black perspective and another perspective, as well as the content that might have gone overlooked by the mainstream.

Its Black Rater’s mission is to bring back the viewing experience that Covid took away. To shine a light on content that is being overlooked by the mainstream and connect people through film and television shows so that movie night will be better than before.
What We Do?
We provide fans with a comprehensive guide to movies and television shows that are overlooked in theaters and at home. Bringing together friends and family and giving them the familiar experience of per-pandemic movie nights. Likewise, we connect underappreciated movies and actors with an audience that will appreciate and love them. In addition, if you think a show needs a more extensive audience, PICK IT OUT! The Afro Pick is reserved for the best of the best as selected by our RATERS. We also hold RATER PARTIES all across the states, a member-only portion on our page that allows users to share their watch parties.
